Republic of Congo emerge victorious at CAF African Schools Football Championship UNIFFAC Qualifiers
The Republic of Congo will represent the UNIFFAC Zone in both the Boys and Girls U-15 division of the CAF African Schools Football Championship (ASFC) Finals this season.
This was officially confirmed on Saturday, 16 March at Kinshasa’s Tata Raphael Stadium in DR Congo in an afternoon that also marked the conclusion of the zonal qualifier stage of the competition.
The CAF African Schools Football Championship is enjoying unprecedented success in its second season, with over 800 000 school going learners reached by CAF through the first of its kind youth football competition.
After two days of youth football action, it was the Republic of Congo who were crowned champions after the boys overcame hosts, DR Congo and Gabon in their division, while the Girls edged DR Congo in the Girls division.
Preceding the competition, CAF in close partnership with FECOFA conducted a various capacity building workshops in line with CAF’s parallel objective of the programme, which is to equip and produce future African leaders.
The courses and workshops included a Grassroots Coaching refresher course, Young Referee’s Programme, Young Reporters Programme, Young Medical Officer’s Programme as well as the CAF Safeguarding workshop.
With the conclusion of the qualifier phase, the competition now swiftly moves to the Finals where winners of each CAF Zone will compete at the CAF African Schools Football Championship Finals to determine the overall African champions in both the boys and girls divisions.
Details of the final phase of the competition will be announced by CAF in due course.
