Koller warns against complacency ahead of Belouizdad clash

Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller has issued a strong reminder to his players about the dangers of complacency as his side prepares to face Belouizdad in Algeria on Friday.

Belouizdad will welcome Al Ahly to the Stade du 5 Juillet 1962 in Algiers for a highly anticipated Group C clash in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

With both teams needing points to solidify their campaigns, the match promises to be a tightly contested affair.

Al Ahly, fresh off a resounding 6-1 victory in their previous meeting in Cairo, will face a Belouizdad side determined to bounce back in front of their home supporters.

Despite the first-leg result, Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller emphasized that his team is not underestimating their opponents.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Thursday, the Swiss coach highlighted Belouizdad’s quality and their ability to rise to the occasion.

"Belouizdad is a strong team and created many problems for us in the first half of the previous match," Koller noted.

He added that the Algerian side will be eager to bounce back, fueled by the pressure of their current group position and the passionate support of their fans.

"We are sure that Chabab Belouizdad will try with all their might, especially with the fans' support. Matches are different, and this one will be played on small details," Koller said.

Koller also made it clear that the first-leg result is not a reason for his side to relax. "Leniency is not something that Al Ahly players can tolerate.

"I spoke with the players about the matter, and we will not be tempted by the result of the first leg match," he emphasized.

The coach outlined his plan to maintain control of the game and highlighted the importance of maintaining focus across 90 minutes.

"We want to control the rhythm of the match tomorrow and, God willing, win and achieve the three points," he explained.

Addressing squad management, Koller revealed that the game provides opportunities for other players to step up, particularly given Al Ahly's packed schedule.

He also reaffirmed Percy Tau's importance to the team, saying, "Percy Tau is an Al Ahly player and is still part of our plans for the future, and he is with us."

Belouizdad, under pressure to secure points, will look to exploit home advantage as Al Ahly aim to take a significant step towards qualification from Group C.
