Simba suffer defeat on the road, USM Alger secure vital point away from home

Following their positive start to their Group A campaign of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, Simba SC suffered narrow 2-1 defeat on the road at the hands of CS Constantine on Sunday evening.

After initially taking the lead through Mohammed Hussein 24th minute strike, the Tanzanian giants were well on course to a second consecutive victory but lapse of concentration in the second half cost them the lead and all the points on offer.

Coming back from the break, the Algerian outfit came out a more structured side with well-orchestrated ball movements that troubled the visiting Tanzanians from the restart.

It took just two minutes from the break for Simba to surrender their lead through an unfortunate own goal by Abdulrazack Hamza as a result of the ongoing pressure.

The concession gave the hosts the much-needed confidence as they capitalized on Simba’s mistakes with an immediate goal, as Brahim Dib made it two in the 50th minute in what would be the last goal of the match.

The result sees SC Constantine go top of the group with six points, while Simba occupy third behind Bravos do Maquis who edged Sfaxien 3-2 in a simultaneous fixture.

Meanwhile former champions, USM Alger secured a vital point away from home when they held ASC les Jaraaf de Dakar to a goalless draw in Dakar.

The point away from home seems the Algerians remain top of Group C, while the Senegalese side are third behind Asec Mimosas.
