The race towards a place at the TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations is officially underway in Egypt, as the host country stages the UNAF Qualifiers of the youth competition set to take place between 14 – 26 November.

Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia are the five nations doing battle for a place at next year’s finals to contest the continental crown currently held by Senegal.

The qualifiers will be held over a round-robin format, with the winners and runners-up being guaranteed a place at next year’s finals.

The first matches saw Tunisia taking three valuable points against Libya after a hard-fought 2-1 victory of the Libyans to secure a confident start to the competition.

The second match of the day saw Morocco edging the tournament hosts with the same scoreline - something the hosts will be looking at fixing in their remaining matches.

The result sees the two sides, Morocco and Tunisia jointly leading the table with three points, with hosts Egypt and Libya at the bottom of the table, while Algeria who are yet to play hope to get their campaign off to a great start.

The second day of the qualifiers will see the two first round winners, Tunisia and Morocco taking each other on, while Algeria get their campaign underway against the wounded hosts, Egypt.

A total of 12 countries will compete at the TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, where they will not only be contending the continental title, but a place in the FIFA U-20 World Cup set to take place in Chile between 27 September – 19 October.
