The Rwandan Football Federation (FERWAFA) confirmed his appointment on Sunday, March 2, with the former Tanzania coach signing a 24-month contract.

Amrouche will be tasked with revitalizing the Amavubi and guiding them to the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

He will be assisted by Eric Nshimiyimana and Dr. Carolin Braun, forming a new-look technical team for Rwanda’s national side.

A New Chapter for an Experienced Coach

Amrouche, a former defensive midfielder for OMR EL Annasser, brings vast experience to his new role.

He has managed seven national teams, including Kenya, Libya, Burundi, Botswana, Yemen, and most recently, Tanzania. He has also coached USM Alger and MC Alger, two of Algeria’s most prestigious clubs.

His last job in charge of Tanzania at the 2023 AFCON in Côte d'Ivoire.

Now, with a fresh challenge in Rwanda, he will be looking to rebuilding the national team of the East African side.

Key Tasks Ahead for Amrouche

With his contract running until 2026, Amrouche’s immediate priority will be preparing Rwanda for upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Amavubi face a crucial test against Nigeria on March 21, 2025, at the Amahoro Stadium, followed by another home fixture against Lesotho on March 25, 2025.

Beyond the qualifiers, his long-term goal will be to secure AFCON qualification and elevate Rwanda’s status in African football.

Given his experience in managing teams across the continent, Amrouche will be expected to instill tactical discipline and competitive resilience in the squad.

His appointment signals a new direction for Rwandan football, with hopes that his leadership can steer the Amavubi toward international success.
